Aoife Shanahan is a visual artist based in Dublin, Ireland. She received her MFA in Photography from the Belfast School of Art in 2018. Her work is driven by a strong interest in camera-less photography. Through an experimental approach to traditional analogue materials, she explores their expressive possibilities while questioning their contemporary relevance in a digital era. She also holds a degree in Pharmacy from Trinity College Dublin.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, with recent venues including the National Gallery of Ireland, the Royal Hibernian Academy, Green on Red Gallery and the Centre for Fine Art Photography, Colorado. In 2016, she received the RHA Progressive Vision Curtin O’Donoghue Emerging Photographic Artist Award. Recent awards from the Arts Council of Ireland include the Visual Arts Bursary Award, the Agility Award and the Professional Development Award. She recently completed a major public commission for Bristol Myers Squibb and Fingal County Council.
Her work is held in a number of collections including the National Gallery of Ireland, the OPW State Art Collection and the David Kronn/IMMA Collection.
